Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is an island country located in South Asia, situated in the Indian Ocean to the southwest of the Bay of Bengal. It is known for its diverse landscapes, which include lush tropical forests, pristine beaches, and ancient cities and temples. The official languages of Sri Lanka are Sinhalese and Tamil, and the country has a population of approximately 21 million people. The capital and largest city is Colombo.
Sri Lanka has a long and rich history, with influences from India, Portugal, the Netherlands, and the British Empire. The country has many ancient cities and temples, including the sacred city of Kandy and the ancient city of Sigiriya, which is home to a fortress built on top of a massive rock.
The country has a semi-presidential representative democratic republic. The President of Sri Lanka is the head of state, and the Prime Minister is the head of government. The country has a bicameral parliament, which is composed of the 225-member National Assembly and the 41-member Senate.
Sri Lanka’s economy is relatively developed, and it is known for its tea, rubber, and coconut exports. The country also has a growing tourism industry, which is a major source of foreign exchange. Despite this, Sri Lanka still faces many economic and social challenges, including high levels of poverty, unemployment, and income inequality.
Sri Lanka has also experienced a long-standing civil war between the government and the Tamil Tigers, a separatist rebel group, which officially ended in 2009, with the defeat of the Tamil Tigers. However, the country still faces ongoing issues related to the conflict, including the resettlement of internally displaced persons and the pursuit of justice for war crimes.
